Lucky Tan has highlighted this speech (in Mandarin) by a Malaysian politician accusing the ruling party of misusing taxpayer money by doing last minute development works just before the polls. The best snippet starts at 1:45.
I wish our own opposition had highlighted the PAP’s own pork barrel politics (votes-for-upgrading, New Singapore Shares, Progress Package, etc) in such a convincing manner during the last GE. Perhaps they didn’t need to, since Hougang and Potong Pasir voters soundly rejected multi-million dollar carrots offered to them in exchange for their votes.
p.s. If anyone can tell me who this politician is, I would be grateful.

Hi Gerald,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
I believe his name is Nga Kor Ming.
This looks like the continuation of the video clip on “pork barrel politics”:

another nice speech… on the use of public funds:

Dear Gerald,
Pork Barrel politics exist everywhere. Maybe I sound cynical with the earlier statement but I feel very strongly against this practice.
The use of public fund for upgrading of estates and HDB blocks is wrong. Are we saying that a opposition ward does not pay taxes and are not citizen. Why should they be denied the benefits of estate upgrading because their political leanings is different.
It appears that Singaporeans have short memories. For years, there is a pattern of freebies (NSS, ERS…etc) and rate cuts just before the election. Yet when election is over, there is a spate of price increase.
Will our people start to wake up and recognise these trends or continue to fall prey to the same pork barrel politics that our regional neighbours practice. How different are we then from our neighbours?

Hi Gerald,
On the subject of Malaysian politics, I chanced upon another pretty impressive politician… also from the DAP… Hannah Yeoh:

Hey thanks for flagging Hannah Yeoh. She certainly is pretty + impressive. :)
Also like her subheader. I think I’ll use that too on my blog. It’s from Proverbs 14:34.
You completed several nice points there. I did a search on the theme and found nearly all folks will go along with with your blog.
