Terrorist leader escapes from Singapore detention centre

The alleged leader of terrorist network Jemaah Islamyiah, Mas Selamat Kastari (above), escaped from the ISD detention centre in Whitley Road in Singapore on Wednesday 27 February. A massive manhunt is on to find him.

Anyone who sees him should call the police at 999 immediately.

While the priority now should be to first find him, I think serious questions will follow later about how an extremely dangerous man with a limp could escape from jail in, of all places, Singapore.

    I couldn’t agree more Gerald.

Once he is apprehended, serious internal investigations and public inquiries should swiftly follow.

I only hope it will not be whitewashed away by simply firing the guard on duty.

  2. runningman Says:

For the longest time, ISD has not lost any ISA detainee. But, why now? From what is known, ISA detainees are guarded by Gurkhas too. And I believe that the security personnel should be armed. Why no one dare to fire a shot, is it?

Mr Wong better not skirt around the incident.

answer is simplier than you think… all the guards and polices are too busy keeping a 24hr virgil and surveilance on chee soon juan… … they got manpower to surround chee with warm bodies for 48 hrs at hong lim park got no people to watch the terrorist leader …. glad our SS got their priorities right

  5. Upperroom Says:

He is in a detention center and not a prison because he is a terrorist suspect. He is not yet a terrorist.

He is held under the Internal Security Act to prevent him from becoming a terrorist.

The Ministry of Home Affairs must be held accountable for any terrors he may cause.

I was shocked too when I read the headlines this morning. But guess the most important thing is to nab the man. The questioning can come later…

They really need to locate the terrorist and put him back to where he belongs! Then I personally feel that heads should roll! Right from the very top!
Its such an embarrassment for people like me who likes to boast about Singapore to my foreign friends! Suddenly we have become a laughing stock!

  8. Anonymous Says:

  10. Onlooker Says:

The police chief have some explaining to do.Like why minimal security for high risk area.
Why the lapse in security especially after the budget is announced?
Did they cut funding for police?

  11. Anonymous Says:

Doesn’t this issue also show that the PAP abused its ISA power in the past by putting in people like Francis Seow and JBJ and catholic social workers?
